Are you a “Doer” or a “Don’ter”r? A question asked by Johnny Wu (Jeong).
Johnny inspires people to “Get a Goal. Get a plan. And get up off your ass!” Unfortunately for Daniel Lugo (Wahlberg) that plan involves kidnap, torture and a whole other heap of troubles.
Pain & Gain is a telling of a true story (with a few Hollywood enhancements, of course) about three body-builders from Miami who decide the best way of getting what you want in this world is to simply go out and take it; even if it means you take it from somebody who already has it. Danny gets a Three-Point-Plan. Helping Danny succeed in his Three-Point-Plan are Adrain Dorbal (Mackie) and Paul Doyle (Johnson).
The plan is simple. Kidnap an innocent, but rude and obnoxious, millionaire Victor Kershaw (Shalhoub), make him sign over everything he owns and the days of helping old rich men try to reach their physical peak in the gym are over. Remember of course, this is a true story.
The plan of course doesn’t go exactly to plan mostly hampered by their own stupidity and their lust for all things expensive, the ‘Sun Gym Gang’ aren’t exactly your master criminals.
Although this is a true story, and in reality most of the details are pretty gory and unbelievable, Pain & Gain is actually written and directed as a dark comedy. Most of what you see happened but there’s a few comedy moments added in to lighten the tone of the story.
As you can expect from a Michael Bay, Pain & Gain features fast cars, fast women, some awesome over the top action and of course that sweeping camera shot he does in every movie. The film is a great movie to sit down and enjoy and if you have the time once you’ve watched it, leave a comment below and then go ahead and Google ‘The Sun Gym Gang’ and find out what was Hollywood fiction and what was Miami fact.
