OK, so I may not be an expert on all things Adam Sandler, however I have seen A LOT of his movies and I did review his last Netflix exclusive movie The Ridiculous 6, so it seems only fitting that I review his latest movie (Also exclusive to Netflix), ‘The Do-Over‘.
I’ll be honest, after The Ridiculous 6 I wasn’t exactly rushing to see ‘The Do-Over’ but you’ve got to give these things a chance.
After seeing each other again at a high school reunion, old friends Charlie (David Spade) and Max (Adam Sandler) reminisce about the good old days and Charlie ponders who different his boring and mundane life would be if he could do it all again. Max, not wanting to see his friend waste his days in a life of misery takes it upon himself to fake both their deaths and convinces Charlie to create a new more exciting life.
New lives need new identities which max is able to arrange from his job at the FBI. or the morgue or somewhere…. what they don’t realise is the people they become, live life a little too dangerously and they find themselves in a whole heap of trouble.
Like I said at the beginning of this review, I have seen most of Mr Sandlers’ movies and although I’m a fan, I know they don’t always hit a home run, but in all honesty, ‘The Do-Over’ actually surprised me how good it was.
It was funny, action packed and full of twists and turns some of which I didn’t see coming.
It may be a complete coincidence but could it be that one of the reasons this film is better than some of Sandlers’ previous films is that his only input to this movie was his acting? The writing and casting were left to others, so if you are expecting the rest of the Happy Gilmore crew, you will be disappointed. This is not your average Sandler movie….It’s better.
Along with David Spade and Adam Sandler, the cast also includes Catherine Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Nick Swardson, Paula Patton, Sean Astin, Michael Chiklis, Natasha Leggero and Torsten Voges who plays my favourite character, known only as ‘The Gymnast’.
Although this movie is definitely not suitable for kids, I would recommend it to everybody else. Check it out.
